There is a dental office in Cape Coral with a secret.
Walk through Cape Dental Care at 3001 Del Prado Boulevard South and you will find, connected to the practice, a private aviary home to over 400 birds. One of the largest of its kind in South Florida. Dr. Phillip Kraver built it because he believed his patients deserved more than a waiting room. He was right.
When he reached out to us about filling those walls with a mosaic, we listened carefully. Then Mila got to work.
The piece is 27 feet wide and 8 feet tall, made entirely of glass. Not painted. Not printed. Glass. Tens of thousands of small fragments, each one chosen and placed by hand. The process is slow. You cannot rush it. Mila did not try.
The scene she created is Sanibel as the locals know it. The Causeway bridge stretches across the water. The old lighthouse stands in the background. Pelicans on the shore. A sailboat drifting. Dolphins offshore. An alligator settled into the sand like he owns the place. Hibiscus, mangroves, palms, and tropical flowers filling every corner. It is colorful and full of life and honestly just a lot of fun to look at.
We had a great time building this, and we are genuinely grateful to Dr. Phillip Kraver for trusting us with it. He had the vision before the first piece of glass was ever cut. That made everything easier.
The birds seem to approve :)
