Heritage Fellowship Church began in Reston, Virginia, in 1978, when about 20 people met in a member's home under the name Christian Community Fellowship Church. The congregation grew into its home on Fox Mill Road, where a new building by FGM Architects, centered on an 800 seat sanctuary, was dedicated in October 2012.
For that new building our studio made the stained glass: a round window above the altar, a row of windows behind the platform, and the windows that line the curved wall of the baptistry.
Designed by Brenda Belfield
Fabrication: Stanisic (Apperlo) Art Glass Studio

The round window
A cross divides the circle into 4 quarters. From its center, rays of clear, gold and red glass open outward, while ribbons of blue and turquoise flow beneath them like moving water. Small squares of red and amber glass mark the crossing. In the sanctuary the window hangs high in the gable, framed by the wooden cross above the altar.

Windows of water and light
The tall windows carry the same idea. A slender cross of clear textured glass, marked with red and gold squares where its arms meet, rises through bands of blue, turquoise and white that roll across the window like waves. Clear and lightly textured glass keeps the windows bright and lets the trees and sky outside become part of the design.

The baptistry
The water theme matters most around the baptistry, where the windows follow the curve of the wall and wash the room in blue light. Seen through the glass railing, they read as one continuous stream.
