Contemporary leaded stained glass sidelights for a private residence in Reston, Virginia: Lamberts handblown glass in a geometric composition of fine lead lines, with accents of cobalt blue, ruby red, amber and golden yellow.
Line, light and handblown glass
For a private residence in Reston, Virginia, Apperlo Art | Stanisic Studio created a set of tall contemporary stained glass sidelights framed in warm wood. The design follows modernist geometric abstraction: an asymmetrical play of rectangles and horizontal divisions drawn in fine black lead lines across 3 vertical panels.
The glass is Lamberts mouth blown glass from Germany. Its natural variations in texture, thickness and transparency let the garden outside become part of the artwork, softly changing with the daylight. Clear, textured and translucent glass balances privacy with a view, while small passages of cobalt blue, ruby red, amber and golden yellow catch the sun without overwhelming the architecture.
Every piece was cut to shape and assembled in lead came, the centuries old technique of leaded glass, used here for a distinctly modern composition.
